টানা ২৪ ঘণ্টা রক্তক্ষয়ী সংঘর্ষের পর ইসরায়েলের সঙ্গে অস্ত্রবিরতিতে সম্মত হয়েছে ফিলিস্তিন মুক্তি আন্দোলনের সংগঠন হামাস। গাজায় চলতি বছর সবচেয়ে ভয়াবহ সহিংসতার পর মঙ্গলবার মিশরের মধ্যস্থতায় এ অস্ত্রবিরতির ঘোষণা আসে।

হামাসের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয় ইসরায়েল অস্ত্রবিরতি মেনে চললে তারাও শান্ত থাকবে। তা না হলে ইসরায়েল জনগোষ্ঠীকে হামাস শান্তিতে ঘুমাতে দেবে না।
তবে এ বিষয়ে এখনো কিছু জানায়নি ইসরায়েলি প্রধানমন্ত্রী বেঞ্জামিন নেতানিয়াহু এবং দেশটির সামরিক বাহিনী। কিন্তু দেশটির প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী এভিগডর লিবারম্যান বলেন, ‘তিনি হামলা বন্ধের পক্ষে নন।’
গাজায় ২০১৪ সালের পর ইসরায়েল ও ফিলিস্তিনিদের মধ্যে গত ২৪ ঘণ্টার সহিংসতা ছিল সবচেয়ে ভয়াবহ। এতে ৭ গাজাবাসীসহ দুই ইসরায়েলি প্রাণ হারায়।
