সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় বাংলাদেশ ইউনিভার্সিটি অব প্রফেশনাল (বিইউপি) শিক্ষার্থী আবরার আহমেদ চৌধুরীর মৃত্যুর ঘটনায় চলমান আন্দোলন ২৮ মার্চ পর্যন্ত স্থগিত করেছেন শিক্ষার্থীরা। বুধবার বিকেলে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি কর্পোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলামের সঙ্গে বৈঠক শেষে এ সিদ্ধান্তের কথা জানান বিইউপির আইন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী তাওহিদুজ্জামান।
এর আগে বিইউপির ১০ সদস্যের একটি প্রতিনিধি দলের সঙ্গে একটি বৈঠক করেন মেয়র আতিকুল ইসলাম। সে সময় সেখানে ডিএমপি কমিশনার মো. আছাদুজ্জামান মিয়া, বিইউপি উপাচার্য মেজর জেনারেল এমদাদ উল বারীসহ পরিবহনসংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
বৈঠক শেষে চলমান আন্দোলন ২৮ মার্চ পর্যন্ত স্থগিত করার কথা জানান শিক্ষার্থীরা। এর মধ্যে ৮ দফা দাবী পূরণ না হলে পুনরায় আন্দোলন করা হবে বলে জানান তারা।
উল্লেখ্য, মঙ্গলবার সকালে রাজধানীর বসুন্ধরা আবাসিক এলাকার গেটের সামনে প্রগতি সরণিতে সুপ্রভাত পরিবহনের একটি বাসের চাপায় বিইউপি’র আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্ক বিভাগের প্রথম বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী আবরার ঘটনাস্থলেই নিহত হয়।
এরপর থেকেই স্থানীয়দের সাথে বিক্ষুদ্ধ শিক্ষার্থীরা বাস চালকের শাস্তির পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন দাবিতে বিক্ষোভ করে আসছে। দুর্ঘটনার পরের দিন আজ বুধবারও রাজধানীর বিভিন্ন স্থানে রাস্তায় নেমেছে শিক্ষার্থীরা।
